Simpirica Spine (San Carlos, CA) a clinical-stage medical device company focused on minimally invasive, flexion-restricting lumbar stabilization devices, closed a $22M Series B financing. Participants include Norwest Venture Partners, De Novo Ventures and U.S. Venture Partners.

Astute Medical (San Diego, CA) a development-stage diagnostic company focused on the identification and validation of protein biomarkers that can test for hospital acquired acute conditions like sepsis, kidney injury and abdominal pain, closed a $26.5M Series B financing. Participants include Domain Associates, Delphi Ventures, Johnson & Johnson Development Corp. and De Novo Ventures.

TearScience (Morrisville, NC) a clinical-stage medical device company focused on the treatment of chronic evaporative dry eye due to obstructive Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, closed a $44.5M Series C financing. Participants include Essex Woodlands Health Ventures, Investor Growth Capital, General Catalyst, De Novo Ventures, Spray Ventures and Quaker Bio Ventures.

HemaQuest Pharmaceuticals (Newton, MA) a clinical-stage small molecule company focused on hemoglobin disorders such as sickle cell disease, beta thalassemia, and viral-associated disease such as HPV, EBV and HIV, closed a $12M Series B financing. Participants include Aberdare Ventures, De Novo Ventures, Forward Ventures and Lilly Ventures.

Pulmonx (Redwood City, CA) a commercial-stage medical device company focused on minimally invasive devices for the diagnosis and treatment of COPD and other pulmonary disorders, closed a $32M Series C financing. Participants include HealthCap, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, De Novo Ventures, Latterell Venture Partners, MedVenture Associates, Montreux Equity Partners and Posco BioVentures.

Lux Biosciences (Jersey City, NJ) a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on ophthalmic diseases, closed a $50M Series B financing. Participants include HBM Bioventures, De Novo Ventures, Prospect Venture Partners, SV Life Sciences and International Biotechnology Trust.
