Spinifex Pharmaceuticalsx (Australia) a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on neuropathic pain, closed a $6.4M Series B financing. Participants include GBS Venture Partners, Brandon Capital Partners, Uniseed Management and UniQuest.

Aratana Therapeutics (Kansas City, KS) a clinical-stage animal health company focused on pain, cancer, inflammation, cachexia and frailty, closed a $20M Series A financing. Participants include MPM Capital, Cultivian Ventures and Avalon Ventures.

PanTheryx (Boulder, CO) a commercial-stage pharmaceutical company focused on the acquisition, development and commercialization of pain, inflammation, GERD, rhinitis and peripheral neuropathy products for the Indian healthcare market, closed a $1M Series A financing. Participants were not identified.

Syntaxin (United Kingdom) a preclinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focusing on targeted secretion inhibitors for the potential treatment of pain, endocrine disease and cancer, closed a $28.3M Series C financing. Participants include Lundbeckfond Ventures, Ipsen, Seventure Partners, Abingworth, SROne, Life Science Partners, Johnson & Johnson Development Corp and Quest for Growth.

Convergence Pharmaceuticals (United Kingdom) a clinical-stage small molecule company focused on the treatment of neuropathic and chronic pain, closed a $35.4M Series A financing. Participants include New Leaf Venture Partners, Apposite Capital and SV Life Sciences.

Cara Therapeutics (Shelton, CT) a clinical-stage small molecule company focused on pain and inflammation, closed a $15M Series D financing. Participants include Rho Ventures, Alta Partners, Ascent Biomedical Ventures, CT Innovations, Devon Park BioVentures, Mitsubishi International and MVM Life Science Partners.

Auspex Pharmaceuticals (Vista, CA) a clinical-stage small molecule company focused on deuterated analogs of clinically validated pain drugs, closed a $12M Series C financing. Participants have previously identified Thomas, McNerney & Partners, CMEA Ventures and Sloan Biotech Funds.

Trevena (Berwyn, PA) a clinical-stage small molecule company focused on G-protein coupled receptor targeting for heart failure and pain, closed a $35M Series B funding from existing investors. Participants include Polaris Venture Partners, New Enterprise Associates, Alta Partners, Healthcare Ventures and Yasuda Enterprise Development Company.

Incline Therapeutics (Redwood City, WA) a clinical-stage drug:device combo company focused on pain, closed a $43M Series A financing. Participants include Frazier Healthcare Ventures, 5AM Ventures, Technology Partners, Adams Street Partners, Saints Capital Partners and Emergent Medical Partners.

NeuroTherapeutics Pharma (Chicago, IL) a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the CNS disorders of epilepsy, acute and neuropathic pain, closed a $43M Series B financing. Participants include Fidelity Biosciences, MPM Capital, S.R. One, Pfizer, Novo Ventures and Thomas McNerney & Partners.

Astute Medical (San Diego, CA) a development-stage diagnostic company focused on the identification and validation of protein biomarkers that can test for hospital acquired acute conditions like sepsis, kidney injury and abdominal pain, closed a $26.5M Series B financing. Participants include Domain Associates, Delphi Ventures, Johnson & Johnson Development Corp. and De Novo Ventures.

Tragara Pharmaceuticals (San Diego, CA) a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on selective biomarker for oncology, pain and inflammation therapeutics, closed a $5M Series B financing.
