Catalyst Biosciences (South San Francisco, CA) a preclinical-stage company developing proteases as a therapeutic platform for inflammation, cardiovascular, and angiogenesis-based disorders closed a $40.4M Series C financing. Participants include Essex Woodlands Health Ventures, Burrill & Co., HealthCare Ventures, Johnson & Johnson Development Corp., Morgenthaler Ventures, Novartis BioVentures and Sofinnova Ventures.

ProstimRx (Hendersonville, TN) an early-stage developer of medical devices for the treatment of the treatment of prostatitis, benign prostate hypertrophy, erectile dysfunction and other prostate-related disorders closed a $5M Series A financing. Participants include M.D. Venture Partners.

Adhezion Biomedical (Myomissing, PA) an early-stage device company focused on the development differentiated cyanoacrylate-based surgical, wound management and infection prevention technologies closed a $2.1M Series A financing, bringing the round total to $5.3M. Participants include Liberty Venture Partners.

Flexicath (Israel) an early-stage developer of intravenous catheterization devices closed a $0.6M Series B financing. Participants include the Zitelman Group.

Domain Therapeutics (France) and early-stage company focused on the identification of allosteric modulators of G Protein-Coupled Receptors closed a $2.9M Series A financing. Participants include Alsace Inter Regio Fonds d’Investissement, Alsace Création, Sam Eletr and Bernard Gilly. AGF Private Equity, Auriga Partners, Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners and Sofinnova Partners.

Biopta (United Kingdom) a tissue-based contract research organization closed a $1.3M Series A financing. Participants include Braveheart Investment Group, Scottish Co-Investment Fund and TriCap.

Lab21 Healthcare (United Kingdom) a specialty molecular companion diagnostic and assay developer closed a $3.2M Series B financing. Participants include Nexus Medical Partners and RowanDartington.

KaloBios Pharmaceuticals (South San Francisco, CA) an early-stage monoclonal antibody therapeutic company focused on anitinfectives, autoimmune disease and oncology closed a $12M Series D, bringing the round total to $32M. Participants include Baxter International, Genzyme Ventures and Mitsubishi UFJ Capital.

Galleon Pharmaceuticals (Horsham, PA) a discovery-stage company that is focused on building a portfolio of novel medicines for prevalent breathing-control conditions closed a $15M Series A financing. Participants have not been named.

Accera (Broomfield, CO) a biotechnology company developing therapies that address metabolic deficiencies and provide an alternative energy source for brain cells, closed a $35M Series C financing. Participants include Inventages Venture Capital, POSCO BioVentures and Bloodstone Ventures.

Numerate (San Bruno, CA) a biotechnology company focused on design, identification and optimization drug engineering process platform, closed a $4M Series A financing. Participants include Foundation Capital and Lanza Tech Ventures

Chiral Quest (Monmouth Junction, NJ) CMO focused on process development and chiral chemistry, closed a $13M Series B financing. Participants include Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, China Spring Fund, Japan Asia Investment Co and Infinity i-China.

Arete Therapeutics (Hayward, CA) clinical-stage biotechnology company developing soluble epoxide hydrolase inhibitor small molecule drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular, metabolic and inflammatory diseases, closed a $51M Series A financing. Participants include Frazier Healthcare Ventures, Alta Partners, Burrill & Co., Three Arch Partners, and Altitude Life Science Ventures.
