Savara Pharmaceuticals (Austin, TX) a preclinical-stage developer of dry powder and nebulized-based therapeutic inhalation drug delivery platform, closed a $1.0M Series A financing. Participants were not identified.

Embrella Cardiovascular (Malvern, PA) an early-stage medical device company focused on cerebral embolic protection during cardiovascular procedures, closed a $5.1M Series B financing. Participants include BioStarVentures, Edwards Lifesciences and MedFocus Fund.

Capella (Ireland) a development-stage medical device company focused on stents for bifurcation vascular disease complex coronary artery disease, cloased a $17.3M Series C financing. Participants include Fountain Healthcare Partners, Mitsui & Co., Enterprise Ireland, Polytechnos Partners and ACT Venture Capital.

Solazyme (San Francisco, CA) a development-stage biofuels company focused on the bioproduction of microalgae molecules for the energy, chemical, and nutraceutical industries, closed a $57M Series C financing. Participants include Braemar Energy Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, VantagePoint Venture Partners, Roda Group and Harris & Harris Group.

NanoString Technologies (Seattle, WA) a commercial-stage developer of instrumentation and assays for multiplexed detection and quantification of gene expression, closed a $30M Series C financing. Participants include Clarus Ventures, OVP Venture Partners and Draper Fisher Jurvetson.

Inspire Medical Systems (Minneapolis, MN) an early-stage medical device company developing an implantable therapeutic device for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, closed a $17M Series B financing. Participants include Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Medtronic and U.S. Venture Partners.

Spiracur (Redwood City, CA) and early-stage medical device company focused on wound healing, closed a $20.3M Series B financing. Participants include Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, New Leaf Venture Partners and De Novo Ventures.

Inimex Pharmaceuticals (Canada) a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on infectious diseases and inflammatory disorders, closed a $22M Series B financing. Participants include Morningside, Roche Venture Fund, Astellas Venture Management, Advantage Life Science Fund, BC Advantage Funds, BDC Venture Capital, British Columbia Discovery Fund, Canadian Medical Discovery Fund, and Working Opportunity Fund.

Zymeworks (Canada) a development-stage computational biotechnology company focused on optimizing therapeutic antibodies and other protein-based therapeutics, closed a $3.5M Series C financing. Participants include CTI Life Sciences Fund.

Lumavita (Switzerland) a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on anti-infectives for women’s health including vaginitis, HPV and HSV, closed a $5.5 Series A bring the total round up to $22M. Participants include HealthCap and Endeavour Vision.

CoAxia (Maple Gove, MN) a clinical-stage medical device company focused on catheter-based therapy for the treatment of cerebral ischemia, closed a $21.5M Series D financing. Participants include Sofinnova Partners, Affinity Capital Management, Baird Venture Partners, Canaan Ventures Partners, Johnson and Johnson Development Corp. and Prism VentureWorks.

Active Implants (Memphis, TN) a development-stage company focused on medical grade polycarbonate urethane for hip and knee orthopedic implants, closed a $10M Series C financing. Participants in the round were not identified.
